BES Falcons are soaring toward being the best problem-solvers around. Students are learning to use the Conflict Corner as a safe place to resolve conflict or problems. They have been taught by the school counselor some simple steps and words to use in order to be expert problem-solvers.

  • First, we start by facing each other with our palms up and hands open – this way we are letting another person know we are ready to listen.
  • We then identify the problem, not tell the whole story, by saying the problem is and fill in the blank. We use clear words to identify the problems while listening to each other.
  • Next, we identify our feelings connected to the problems by saying I feel and
fill in the blank because and fill in another blank. Sometimes this part is hard at first, but with some practice, we are getting better at identifying our feeling and why we have those feelings.
  • Finally, we are ready to think about solutions. Each student gives at least one possible solution.
  • Then, the students discuss a solution that both parties can agree upon for every day actions. Once we reach an agreed upon solution, students shake hands to make a contract they are agreeing to stand by in the future.
  • The last step of the Conflict Corner is giving a complement because Kindness is the way Falcons SOARr best!!
