Wellness Week at Bahrain Elementary School

Students at Bahrain Elementary participated in fun learning activities during Wellness Week, which was held February 4th -8th. The week started off with Strong Sunday where students showed their strength in relay races organized during recess. Mindful Monday gave kids the opportunity to practice two-minute mediation and focus on positive self-affirmations. Students completed self-portraits and learned to be accepting of themselves and others, and to celebrate our differences. Students learned how to read a nutrition label and about the different food groups during lunch on Tasty Tuesday. On Wellness Wednesday students were able to participate in the Teddy Bear Clinic. Students in grades kindergarten through fifth experienced the “waiting room.” They moved on to patient registration and then switched gears to become the caregiver. Students donned gloves and gowns to care for their stuffies. Some had broken bones while others needed an AED for resuscitation! Students also learned proper handwashing techniques as well as focusing on how to brush their teeth. Thursday was the culminating event of the week with Falcon Field Day! Students had fun choosing from several fun physical activities such as: an obstacle course, football toss, team walker relays, beanbag toss, penalty kick just to name a few. As an extra motivation, students were encouraged to sign an activity pledge to do 20 minutes of physical activity each night after school throughout Wellness Week. A special thanks to Nurse Olivia, the large group specialist teachers, and the parent volunteers who made this such a wonderful week!
